sports pavilion in benfica

public competition for lisboa ocidental sru [5th place] ● lisboa, portugal ● architecture jpqueiroga ● image bernardo silva ● The building arises from the dichotomous relationship between a volume with a heavy and monolithic appearance, made of in situ concrete, and the transparent and light-appearing volume on the first floor, which rests autonomously on the concrete platform. The construction logic of the Sports Pavilion defines the character of the building and, consequently, its image in the city. 17 prefabricated beams suspend the roof and make it possible to overcome the 37 meter span necessary to completely clear the interior space, which is intended to be as spacious and multipurpose as possible.
