pilgrim centre on via francigena

international competition for reuse italy ● lazio, italy ● architecture jpqueiroga ● The proposed building for the Pilgrims Accomodation establishes a volumetric continuity with the smaller volume of the Church of San Giovanni in Val di Lago. Vertical concrete slabs are perfurated to create a continuous set of porticos. The vertical segments that compose the exterior walls evoke the thickness of the church’s stone walls and resemble its original color through a pigment added to the concrete. The complexity of the building is found inside a simple and clear volumetry, keeping the Church of San Giovanni in Val di Lago as the protagonist of the composition.
